Need a change – – – –

June is almost here and it must be time for a change. We started our wood shop in February and have only sold one American Flag. Had a lot of nibbles in regards to our conversion picnic table but not an order yet. I think our biggest issue is marketing. We have tried a few things that obviously hasn’t been successful: flea market, etsy shop, Craigslist, Mothers Day Sale, new signs, business cards and fliers, even posting on Nextdoor to contact our neighbors. We have also done things like getting our resale permit and getting a Square card reader so we can take credit card payments.

I also was doing well as far as sewing for Christmas presents, birthdays and Mothers Day but can’t seem to get motivated to complete a flag for upcoming holidays. Should have made a flag for Memorial Day. Didn’t happen.

I started this blog in February 2012 and I currently only have 79 followers. Thanks to all that have joined my blog. I need to either change how I blog, try videos, or just change directions. The hardest part for me is sharing personal information. Not that I have an exciting life or anything but the more successful blogs I see seem to share parts of their lives.

I guess I haven’t found what I am passionate about. What’s the old saying? “Jack of all trades but master of none.” That’s how I feel.

Maybe I should set some goals either weekly or monthly. Like complete one quilting project or one wood project or one cross stitch project or one sewing project . . or . .or . . . . .

See the problem. Too many things I like to do. I’m pretty good at them. But get lost with lack of decisiveness. Maybe this is the type of blog I should be doing. Just talking.

Wood Shop Signs

Since opening the wood shop I have been making several signs. I’ve gotten pretty good at making them. I find a piece of flat wood, paint it, stencil the letters and paint with a contrasting color. This is our “OPEN” sign that hangs on the wood shop door which can be seen on the road when the shop door is open. You’ll notice I have placed a credit card logo sticker that came with the Square (which is a phone attachment to take credit payments).

Our “ORDER NOW” sign hangs on the gate. As you can see it list the tables at the top and my phone number on the bottom.

Here is the sign I made to use when I have my furniture and home décor sales.

The only other signs I will need to make are for the different holidays.

Oak Table Finished

We purchased an oak table at a yard sale on National Quilting Day.  On Cherish an Antique Day, I first posted pictures of this table. I have been working on it slow and steady. It needed quite a bit of sanding. Here is what it looked like after all the sanding. There are some deep scratches and water stains that I thought would be better left than completely change the history of the table. I did get all the previous finish off the surface.

And this is the finished project. It is a beautiful and unique oak table. We believe it is one of a kind because there is no maker mark. Probably made in someones barn. What do you think of this beautiful table?

Mothers Day Furniture & Home Decor Sale

I had a furniture and home decor sale yesterday at the wood shop.  I should have done it on Saturday also but wasn’t quite ready.  I had my wine displays,

conversion picnic tables, American flags, rice bag pillow, outdoor furniture, mirror stand, horseshoe hinges

and bird houses.

I was hoping to sell something or at least get an order for a flag or picnic table.  No such luck yesterday.  I have learned that I need to have this type of sale at least for 2 days and make sure to advertise it on Nextdoor maybe a day before.  I learn as I go.  My next sale will be for Memorial Day.  I’m hoping to have some different things done by that time.  Wish me luck.

Mirror Stand

We picked up this mirror on a stand when we cleared out a neighbors garage. At first I was thinking I should change this stand. But what would I do? Paint it? Take it apart?

The final decision – no changes. Just cleaning it well and then selling it next weekend for our Mothers Day Sale.

This seems the perfect time to mention that on Mothers Day weekend, May 13th and 14th, we will be having a furniture and home décor sale at our Wood Shop here is sunny southern California. This will be a perfect opportunity to use our Square card reader for payments. We can now take credit card payments which hopefully will help with our sales.

We will have our wine displays, American Flags, mirror stand, oak wood table, outdoor furniture and metal candle holders. This past weekend I put up signs trying to get some conversion picnic table orders so we can get them made by Mothers Day. No orders maybe because it rained all weekend.
