Oak Table Finished

We purchased an oak table at a yard sale on National Quilting Day.  On Cherish an Antique Day, I first posted pictures of this table. I have been working on it slow and steady. It needed quite a bit of sanding. Here is what it looked like after all the sanding. There are some deep scratches and water stains that I thought would be better left than completely change the history of the table. I did get all the previous finish off the surface.

And this is the finished project. It is a beautiful and unique oak table. We believe it is one of a kind because there is no maker mark. Probably made in someones barn. What do you think of this beautiful table?

Cherish an Antique Day

We purchased this oak table at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. It does not have any markings from a builder. So we have to assume that it was probably made in someones barn for their house. The craftsmanship is wonderful. The legs appear to have been hand lathed.

The feet are made of many pieces of wood put together than cut to the shape desired.

It has an mechanism to release the extra leaf which is stored under the main table.

I have to finish sanding the top to get the old finish off. I will then use a wood soap to clean the table thoroughly before using a clear polyurethane to give it a nice finish. Today we are to cherish antiques and I believe the best way is to restore and preserve old furniture.

Goof Off Day

Since it is Goof Off Day, I guess that means I don’t have to do anything today. Yay! Wish I could. But today I need to finish our wine displays (pictures to come) and work on sanding an old oak table. Hope you can goof off today – even if it’s just a little.

*March 22 is International Goof Off Day. The unofficial holiday encourages people to take the day to relax and do unproductive and useless things.

Conversion Picnic Table

Mac & I have started a woodworking and welding shop on our property.  We had tried the woodworking when we moved here in 1997.  Mac made our bedroom set with headboard and 2 night stands.  He also made a drafting table and armoire.  Did not make any sells so the shop really never became a business.

But this time, we are starting with a conversion picnic table and expanding to other items for which we have plans.  This first picnic table is 5 feet and made of pine.  I will be painting it a beautiful blue color this week.  The second one is a four foot table out of redwood. Folding Chair Revamp

As you can see, I was still on my red kick when I revamped these 2 wood chairs. I was using these chairs  with a small glass table. It would have the red salt & pepper shakers and napkins in the center on a colorful table cloth. At this time, we are not using the glass round table in the dining room.

I really liked this fabric because it had a red stripe in it along with these other bright colors. I did realize that in order for the fabric to look more finished I would have to remove the chair back to cover it completely. I decided not to do that at the time but may want to in the future.

Outdoor Furniture Revamped

I have had a set of 4 metal chairs which I repaint every five years or so. Since spring is here and summer is on the way, I thought I would share my most recent outdoor furniture revamp. Instead of painting the chairs and small table the same color, I decided to use five different colors of spray paint.

Outdoor Furnisher Revamped (2)What do you think of the colors? I wasn’t sure about the white chair but it definitely adds a brightness to the set.Outdoor Furnisher Revamped (5)

Especially since one chair is a dark hunter green and the table is black.Outdoor Furnisher Revamped (7)

These five colors also go with some fabric I had. That means I could make pillows for the chairs and end up with a very colorful outdoor sitting area.Outdoor Furnisher (4)

Work Space

Workspace (4)

I’m usually very organized but I have let my work space get out of control. I have a pretty nice space set aside.

One table has my sewing machine while the other 2 are a mess with sewing, quilting and craft stuff. Of course there has to be cat toys around

Workspace (2)

This got out of hand when I started working 5 nights a week from 6 to 12 hours with a 45 minutes drive each way. So now I just need to decide where to start and get some of these projects completed or at least some stuff to a point where they are not just sitting on my work space.Workspace (1)

May decide to bring in another table specifically for cutting and piecing quilts. Not sure if that is a good idea or not. Giving myself more surface to lay stuff. Only time will tell.
