Wine Day

Here are the wines I have in my house on this National Wine Day. You may recognize some of these bottles from pictures of the wine displays made in our wood shop. The first bottle being displayed in the skull wine holder is Baron Herzog Sauvignon Blanc.

We often buy bottles of wine because of the label. The 2 top bottles in the mounted wine rack have been displayed in the skull wine holder at one time or another. The wine rack is holding Apothic Red Ferno which is a red blend, Columbia Crest Red Blend, Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2 bottles of Beringer White Zinfindel.

We almost always have a box of red wine. This one is made by Franzia.

My favorite wine is the white Zinfendel. We keep red wine in the house because as everyone knows – “One glass of red wine a day is good for you.” Don’t you agree? Let us toast to this wonderful day and celebrate the great wines in the world. Cheers!

Escargot Day

I have never tried escargot but for those of you that like it – today is your day to celebrate it.

*National Escargot Day is observed each year on May 24th. This day is in honor of the famous French dish of cooked land snails. Escargot is enjoyed by many. However, it is an acquired taste. It is usually served as an appetizer in French restaurants.

Escargot {es.kar.go}is the French word for snail.

The dish of Escargot is usually prepared by removing the land snails from their shells, cooking them with garlic, butter and wine. They are then placed back into their shells with the sauce for serving. The dish is served with a special fork and tong for easier dining.

Moscato Day

I don’t consider myself a wine drinker but there are times when you just have to have a little drink of fruity White Zinfindel. I have also found that I like Moscato wine which is a fruity, usually white, wine. I found a Bellini recipe using fresh raspberries but decided to use Moscato instead of the sparkling wine and it was delicious.

2 cups of fresh raspberries
6 oz. Pineapple juice
750 ml bottle of Moscato wine
1 cup seltzer

Blend the raspberries and pineapple juice until smooth. Pour wine into a large measuring cup or pitcher. Pour in raspberry juice (you can strain if you don’t like the seeds). Stir in seltzer. Fill glasses with ice then pour in the wine mixture. Enjoy!

Mac & I enjoyed this sooooo much we wanted more after it was gone. So I took a bottle of White Zinfindel and a bag of frozen strawberries with the pineapple juice and seltzer and made the same as above. It tasted good but not as good as the original.

Mandarin Champagne Splash

This is a great start to Valentine’s Day.

4 oz. Sparkling wine or champagne
2 tbsp. Mandarin orange juice (from a can of Mandarin oranges)
5-6 Mandarin orange pieces, canned

Add the Mandarin juice to a champagne flue. Then spoon in the oranges, Next top off with a heavy pour of sparkling wine or champagne. Serve immediately.
